Has anyone used foil insulation in their attics? I'm wondering if it would be worth the trouble laying it on top of the cellulose I have blown in.

I have not but as a word of caution:

be sure you do not end up with a vapor barrier on top of your insulation. It will trap moisture in the insulation, which will kill the R value and cause many more problems.

I have stapled it to the rafters but not on top of insulation.

or do you mean you stapled it to the rafter chords the roofing is built on?

we supply and fit Foil Insulation in Australia, putting Foil Insulation over other types of insulation is a great way to increase the R value, make sure the Foil (radiant barrier) is perforated, so the other insualtion can breath

check out atticfoil.com for pictures of what you can do. it also has the holes in it. im not affiliated with them in any way, just a customer.
