I just bought an LG 37 in. lcd and I have only basic cable channels (CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, etc...) and no cable box. Do I need any special cables to get the best possible picture.

Also, I want to hook up my surround sound stereo speakers to the TV for Tv viewing what hook ups do I need for that.

Seems like the only option you have is to connect the cable directly to the TV. Don't be disappointed if the picture doesn't look as good as your old TV. That's a common complaint when viewing standard-def pictures on a hi-def TV.

If the TV has audio outputs (RCA red and white), connect them to the TV input on the receiver. Some TVs have "line out" audio connectors, while some also have "variable output" audio connectors. In the former case, the receiver will control the volume regardless of the TV setting. In the latter, both the TV and the receiver will control the volume -- but the TV volume has to be up. There is also a menu setting in the TV that allows you to turn off the TV's speakers.

Best possible pic - you need to upgrade to a cable box offering digital/HD !!!! Then you'll need at least component cables or HDMI.
Or, better yet, get a 'lil dish.

See if you can tune digital QAM channels with it. If you can, you can at least tune the digital locals, which should be unencrypted, if you are in the USA.

Otherwise, you need a cable box for HD channels.
