Hey,
I have a Gravely mower 8127B with a Kohler K301s engine.
The engine does not seem to recharge the battery and thus I have to use a separate battery charger to crank the engine.
I noticed on the side of the engine that it says that this engine is equipped with a 15 amp alternator. My question is, where is the alternator and how would I go about checking to see if it is sending a charge to the battery, or why it is not.
Any help would be appreciated,
Keith

There are some things you can check (the alternator is under the flywheel)...but if this is the type with the large square regulator/rectifier box, that is probably the problem. Sometimes you can open them and clean the contact points inside to get them working properly again.

Thanks, where would I look for the regulator box? I don't recall seeing such.

I am trying hard to remember the setup on these things. If yours was equipped with the box I'm thinking of, it would probably be under the dash area of the mower.
Try this...follow the wire from the amp-meter in the dash. If it has the box I mentioned, it will be at the end of that wire. Post back with what you find.
