I recently bought a used Polaris Go-cart Made by Karts International in La. I can not find anything online for the wiring. The key was by passed when lost. It starts and runs great when pull started. It looks like the previous owner added an on/off switch to allow the cart to be pull started then switched off. We knew the electric start didn't work when we bought it.
I think the first question I have is: Should it started by touching the 2 wires from the solinoid? There are 2 wires running from the solinoid and a 3rd ground that attaches right to the cart. These are the 3 wires that attach to the key switch.
I know the battery is too small. It's vibablt way to small for the metal box it fits in and even with a charger on START I cannot get the cart to start, just turn over when the on/off switch is in the off position. :wall: Which makes me think that the on/off switch was installed later.
When the on/off switch is in the on position touching the wires does nothing. even weirder
Is the switch necessary?
Can I go with a push button start?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Thanks- Nicole:)

From the solenoid, are the two wires you're talking about 2 light gauge wires in addition to two cables (or much heavier wires) - one to the battery and one to the starter? Or is there just two wires on the solenoid period?

There are 2 lighter gauge wires running from the solinoid to the key ignition. Then 2 heavy cables running from the solinoid- one to the starter and 1 to the battery.

With your on/off switch to the on position you could jump connect the two heavier cables (bypass the solenoid) and providing you have enough battery and the starter is OK, the engine should start.
One of the wires going to the key switch should be a battery current carrier.
Do you know if you have a CDI box/module on the cart? Is the key switch intended to be a starting switch or just an on/off? If it's intended to be a starting switch it should be spring loaded in the last position.
