Greetings all! I enjoy different types of forums, can't believe I missed this one. This is my first post here and hope it wont be my last.

I have a question and would like to find out what the consensus is.

I have a walk in shower. There are four recessed light fixtures in the ceiling above, which is about 8'+ high. When we moved into the house, there were 250W Heat lamps in these fixtures. The fixtures seem that they are to accommodate these heat lamps relevant to their size. Although I've never had an accident, I'm worried that if any water hits them while they are on, they might or will explode (I've read this elsewhere too).

Now my question is this, can I safely use one of these 250W heat bulbs WITH A TEFLON COATING on the outside of the bulb? These are supposed to be shatter proof. GE makes these: covRguardŽ R40 - Shatter-Resistant Heat Lamp (http://genet.gelighting.com/LightProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=COMMERCIALSPECPAGE&PRODUCTCODE=46881&BreadCrumbValues=Specialty^Heat%20Lamp&SearchFieldCode=null). Other companies make similar types as well.

Any thoughts??

Recessed lights in or over the shower should have a shower rated trim installed. The shower trims that I am familiar with are for use with a standard A type bulb, usually 40-60 watts.

Without seeing a picture it sounds like you need to check the fixture housing to see a list of the correct trim and bulb combinations.

It sounds like an improper installation.
Fixtures in a shower need a gasketed trim.
I have never seen a fixture like this that would be rated for a 250 watt heat lamp.
The lens would defeat the purpose of the lamp.
Get them out of there and get the proper trim for the fixture.
