I'm adding a new line for a light fixture. I already wired up the switch and light and ran the wire to the breaker box. Unfortunately I only bought 50ft of wire which is 3ft too little to tie into breaker box. What can I do to complete the wiring run? Should I just buy 5ft more wire and add a junction near breaker box?

That is certainly an option, as long as the junction box remains permanently accessible. If it were me I would bite the the bullet and re-run the line, as I hate junction boxes for no good reason, especially if it's because I screwed up.

Use a junction box, unless you have a use for the wire.
