Unless I missed it, I didn't see a thread/forum for painting.

I just started my own business a few months ago. I have the opportunity to do some interior painting. As Winter is closing fast, I want to take advantage of the opportunity. My question isn't about how to, but about how much. What would be a fair price per square foot to charge for painting ceilings? The ceiling has a medium rough texture. If there are any contractors reading that can give me an idea of how much to charge per square foot single coat. I assume I would just double, then triple that charge as I add coats. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only times I've ever given a sq ft price has been on new construction. That price would cover all interior painting and usually minor exterior painting [doors] Prices would vary depending on builders and what the job entailed.

Repaints are best priced at a per job basis. Paint usually covers 400 sq ft per gal but textured ceilings will take more paint. If the walls don't paint it will take longer to paint the ceilings. You also need to figure in the time/material spent in getting the job ready for paint - covering up, masking if needed, ladders, getting the paint, etc. Generally a 2nd coat would cost less than the first because you are already set up for the job.

If the ceilings are popcorn, inspect them carefully before bidding the job. Unpainted popcorn is notorious for falling off when it gets wet [from paint] Other textures when damaged by water/moisture can also fail but not as likely as popcorn.
