Hi

does anyone know if it's ok to install IC type recessed lights in the plywood ceiling? I was thinking to install a couple of them for my enclosed porch but I'm not sure if it's appropriate from fire rating stand point since can will be in contact with plywood. I know IC type is rated for the contact with insulation but how about plywood?

Don't see any reason why you can't.
We install them often on patios that get covered with tongue and roove.

IC isn't actually rated "for contact with insulation", it's more like rated "to be covered by insulation so there's no cooling airflow". A non-IC fixture has regular wires in close proximity to the bulb housing, while an IC typically has high-temp wire leads going to a separate box where the connections to the regular wire are made. That way if you cover an IC box with insulation, and the can gets very hot during usage, it doesn't melt the insulation off the standard wires.
