Hey all, first post here, this seems like as good a forum section as any for this topic.

I've got a small workbench project and I've picked out some nice straight 2x4x8 douglas fir for the legs and cross members. Lowes only had these in S-GRN and not pre-dried lumber.

How long should this sit and dry before I cut and use it? It was a bit damp when I bought it this last Sunday and I've got it stored in the garage, up off the ground and shimmed to separate the wood and get some air circulation around each member. It's been pretty warm and dry here in Southern California, figure about a week or two until it's usable?

I'd use it right away - wet wood has a tendency to warp as it dries.

I'm with Mitch17. If you try to air dry it you will probably end up with spaghetti.

BTW - I've used grn doug fir 2X4' for a half dozen workbenches and tool tables without any problems. I just use it as soon as i get it home. Once fixed into position as a bench it will dry pretty straight.
