You need to talk to a closing attorney or at least your county chancery court. You need to show title to the property being conveyed to you and yourselves as owners.

Only the seller can sign the deed. If he is asking you to draft it then you seriously need professional help. Although this could be done by yourself, the fact that you are asking makes me believe that you are not capable of doing it properly. Find a real estate attorney or at least a title company that can do the closing properly and provide you with title insurance.

When you first entered into the contract for deed did you record that contract?

just for a bit of clarification:

have you paid off the house or are you still paying the seller?

You do not need to write a deed in either case, the seller needs to write a deed to grant the property to you if you have paid it off.

If it is not paid off, you need to register the land contract.
