We have just bought our first home and are doing our own renovations on it. We have no plans to sell the house but you never know what the future holds. My question is do DIY renovations make your home more valuable? For example we have redone three bathrooms, 2 taken off wallpaper, painted, removed linoleum and installed linoleum tile. The third we removed the old cabinet and replaced it, added ceramic tile and new mirror and medicine cabinet. We are taking out the carpet and installing laminate flooring through out. We have just installed beautiful oak stairs where there was carpeted stairs before. We sanded and restained our kitchen cabinets a lighter color (that was a chore) and replaced all of the cabinet hardware. We have replaced all of the door knobs in the house with brushed nickel and all of the lights with a brushed or satin nickel finish. All of it was brass before. I am just asking this because I want to make sure that we are not depreciating the value of our home. It appeals to us but not sure what most people want when looking to buy a house. What do you think?

About the only time diy work well adversely affect the sale price is when either the workmanship was shoddy or required inspections were not gotten.
