I have limited spacing between my ceiling bars and joists. Probably about 2 inches. The bars run perpendicular to my 16 inch spaced joists.
I would like to install some floresent lighting. Is there a product that would fit in such tight space? I have seen some posts about 2 X 2 fixtures but the joists are 16" apart.

You could possibly install 1x4 recessed fixtures if you can get the grid to line up with the joists. (As long as you aren't cutting mains).
Also, Hubbell Lighting has just come out with a 2x4 that is only 1 1/2" deep.
Don't know much about it but I expect it is pretty pricey.
