Hello,

I recently contacted an exterminator to get rid of some bees in one of the lower windows on my split level home. While there I asked him to inspect for termites. While none are evident I am concerned cause I have mulched areas near my home approximately worst case 4" below the top of foundation do to how high the sidewalk is away from the house the mulch area with min slope comes that close to the siding. I negotiated and basically the bees cost were going to range from $200 to 285. A basic termite 10yr treatment cost close to $900.00. He said he will throw in the bee treatments if I buy the termite treatment. Is this worth it and how concerned should I be. The house is 10 yrs old with open 2 acre lot and there is a forested area prob 40 yards away.

Hi RD,

You're asking some questions that only you can answer. You don't say what country or state you live in so it's difficult to say if termites are a problem where you live. I live in Maryland and termites are a problem here. I did a google search with the term:
termites + Maryland

You could do the same for your state or do a search of your State Extension Service or contact them for info on termites where you live. The site from my state might have some helpful info for you.

You can find your US extension service here.

I am usually against peace of mind treatments for termites, but the price sounds good if you get a repair guarantee and not just retreatment

The material will probably be Termidor which is a good product
