Lately my 1990 27" sharp tv has been losing it's picture. The sound stays on but the picture goes. My wife bangs on it's side and eventually the picture returns. Is there a loose connection that I could fix? I am somewhat of a handyman but I am afraid of getting fried without proper procedures. Let me know what I can do.

Carefully remove the casing.

Be sure to read my FAQ sticky about repairing your TV because TV's can store alot of electricity.

Inspect all the circuit boards for burned or damaged solder joints for starters.

And if that doesn't work, I think you got you're moneys worth, Toss it.
