I carefully followed the intructions when installing this thermostat. However, it will only turn on the heat when i set it 7-8 degrees higher than the current temp. Is there something I can do about this, or is this the way it's supposed to work?
Thanks for the help.

You'll need to remove the thermostat, leaving the base on the wall, and loosen the base plate screws and rotate the base a little counterclockwise direction.

These stats need to be level. But I have seen some that are factory off. You will have to make the suggested compensation. Heat is called when the merrcury in the vial falls to the left. Obviously you need to have it go left quicker. Therefore you have to turn the top of the base also to the left.

Isn't that stat electronic? Do you have hot water heat with Taco or other brand of heat motor zone valves?

Grady is right, that is an electronic t-stat.

My heating system is gas powered forced air. The thermostat does NOT have a mercury switch.

Rich,

I sent an e-mail out to Honeywell about this issue. Another poster on here been having the same issues.. But he never said if he bumping the temp up higher or not. he just says nothing happens.

Once you bump the temp up, are you able to cycle the equipement?

Jay,
Thanks for your help on this.
Yes, once I bump them temp 7 or 8 degrees, I hear a click in the termostat, and then the heat cycles on.

I have an 8 month old son, and we want to keep him warm at night, but not too warm. The thermostat was advertised as being within 1-2 degrees accurate.

The installation instructions only said "level if you wish".

These are electronic t-stat, and level is not an issues with these.

I'll keep you posted of what I may hear back from Honeywell.

Sorry. I got thrown a curve ball. Brought it up on Google yesterday and saw it was the familiar ROUND t-stat, that even said it was America's #1 stat (or to that effect) and that was their saying with the OLD mercury vial one. And on the main page it said nothing about the word digital. Only that it was mercury free. Presumed they substituted metals. Their site intentionally did this to me so I'd look like I had egg on my face. (Why woudn't they put the word digital on that page?!) :)

Happened to just see message question on Yahoo (unanswered so far I believe) of someone asking the same question as you.

Hey, if that's the only egg you get on your face around here, count your lucky stars. I've wiped off more egg & eaten more crow than I care to but I keep on plugging. ;)
At least you're man enough to admit on a public forum you're not goof proof.
