I have a forced hot air furnace in the basement of my cape where the 275 gallon oil tank is located. My last delivery there was a relatively small oil spill from overfilling of the tank. The smell is awful on the first floor. What is the best way to remove this smell from the home? (Currently using speedi-dri combined with odor kill powder and spray as well as a high speed fan venting to an open window.)

Is yours caused by spillage? I once diagnosed/found an oil burner heat exhanger with a huge chunk burned out of it and the house was being stunk up by oil getting through the heat exchanger - a dangerous thing!

One of the best things I've found is Simple Green sprayed liberally on the spill area & allowed to soak for 10-15 minutes.
Once the odor gets into the wood, carpet, fabrics, etc. about the only cure is time or covering the odor with stink sweet.
