Hello,

My 3 yr. old SANSUI TVS3275 television turns off by itself. The occurence intervals are random. Sleep mode is definitely off. I have already tried unplugging power to reset as well. I have some electronics background but no specific knowledge of troubleshooting TVs. Any tips on what/where to look besides bad solder connections would be helpful. I would like to take a shot at the repair before taking it in for service. If this is a thermal issue, is there a likely culprit?

Thanks,
Ken S.

Have you opened the back to see what kind of gunk has built up inside? Dust around the heat sinks can cause it to overheat. Can't hurt to clean it. I use an artist's paintbrush taped to the upholstery attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Without actually touching anything, use the paint brush to softly loosen the dust. If the paintbrush has a metal ring holding the bristles, don't let it touch anything.

Keep one hand in your pocket so you can't create a circuit through your body. Seriously. Even when it's unplugged there's still potential in the charged caps.
