Have a Heil-Quaker/ Whirlpool Model NUGG075AF01 furnace made in 1983 with a problem. This is what I know:
1. Thermostat working.
2. Standing pilot light is on, and has flame.
3. When temp is set, burner turns on and begins to heat.
4. While burner is operating, fan limit switch dial is rotating, in clockwise fashion.
5. Burner runs for a while, but kicks off. If I wait a few minutes, it will do 3-5 again.
6. Blower never turns on (on thermostat, fan is set on Auto).
7. Blower will come on if fan switch in turned to ON position on thermostat.
Help!
Do I have a problem with my burner, my fan switch, or my blower. Help is greatly appreciated.

How far is this limit switch turning to? Is it going to the High Limit setting? (The last tab)

Is your blower motor a belt drive or direct?
If you are direct, your system is using two speed, 1 for heating, and another for cooling. When you turn the fan switch on, it's using the cooling speed.
chances are your heating speed winding may be out, take a meter to see if you are getting power at that tap,
- if you not, the limit control is bad.
- If you are, then try changing speed wires, or a new motor.

The fan limit switch appears to have three small "pointers" as they are called in the manual. When the unit is heating up, it will rotate clockwise all the way to the third pointer. It is when it reaches this area, that the burner will kick off. Once the unit cools down, the dial rotates back other way.
The blower is direct. I have a four wires. I had read another post about removing the yellow wire (low speed for heating), and connecting the orange in its place. I tried this very first thing this morning, but it blower still does not operate.
I appreciate the direction.

Look closely at the fan/limit control. Can you see that one side is the fan switch and the other is the limit switch? The fan switch is the one with the wire going to the blower motor. Start the furnace, let it heat up some, then check both sides of the fan switch [one wire at a time] to the furnace neutral wire [the white one] for voltage. My guess is you'll find that you have power coming in but no power going to the motor which would mean the fan switch has crapped out. The best prices I've found so far for fan/limit controls is at http://arnoldservice.com Look for Honeywell L4064 controls.
