I recently purchased 6" IC light cans. Is there a standard formula for spacing? I want to add them to my L/R D/R which is open floor plan 26 x 14 and a 10 x 13 bedroom.
Any help and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are several variables to consider. I don't think there is a rule of thumb though. A good place to ask though is at a lighting shoip.

Ceiling height, bulb wattage, style and position (how far it's recessed in the can), and trim style all effect the lights footprint.

I have 8, 6" cans in a 16X24 MBR with 8' ceilings. The bulb are 65W incandescent floods. The light is a bit more than adequate.

My 12X 12 kitchen has 7 recessed lights the same as the ones in the MBR. The light is excellent although we have an additional 6 smaller recessed lights of the countertop.
