I have a Lenox G12 natural gas furnace that produces no heat. When we got home from work there was a slight gas odor. The pilot is on with a decent flame that decreases a bit when the fan comes on, but nothing is coming out of the blowers. No heat!!!!

I need to fix this myself is possible because of the $$$$ a pro would charge me. I have no HVAC experience, but I know the difference between a phillips and a flat-tip screw driver. As of now, I am left with turning off the furnace and living with the cold.

A slight gas odor is usually a bad thing. Unless someone with experience in gas furnaces(not me) writes back tonight, you would be better off getting a pro to check it than to be blown up. Might also be a good idea to turn it off until then, unless you feel safe. Good luck.

Open up the furnace door where the burners are. Then observe. Tell us what time in the sequencing of things everything starts to come on, like ventor fan, pilot, blower fan that blows are out your registers, and if you get a burner flame. Also, take your finger tips and rest them on the gas valve. Listen and feel if there is a click of the gas valve after the pilot has been on for a short bit. And if the burner flame comes on even momentarily.
