My mom has come to stay with me. I've set her up with a JVC tv and a satellite drop (Hughes set-top box). The problem is that she can't get the hang of the remote. Invariably she changes the input on the TV or gets lost in the DirecTV guide somehow. She needs a remote that steps through the channels without scrolling through the guide, controls the volume and turns the TV on and off without having to push a device selection button. Preferably it would have four (big) buttons or less. Does anyone know of a simple remote?

There are actually some just like that, but they only control one thing. They say only tv, so I don't know if there's even programming for anything else.
But there are some with a minimal amount of buttons from Sony and Zenith, among others. They only control 2 devices.
Unfortunately your best bet won't be cheap. Get a true learning remote, which will have way more buttons than you need. But only program what you want into it. www.universalremote.com (http://www.universalremote.com) or www.rticorp.com (http://www.rticorp.com) are a couple. I don't think you can buy direct, but you can get all the info there.
