My Rheem furnance will not stay on. The glow bar comes on then the burners lights. Very shortly thereafter the burners go out but the exhaust fan to run as well as the blower. After a short while the blower and inducer cut back off. It does this repeatedly. The thermostat temp is set at 73 but the house temp is 68. What could be the problem. Is there a sensor thats not being satisfied.

More than likely it's the flame sensor. If you remove the service panel where the burners are located and look on the left side there should be a small rod maybe 3" long extending into where the flame would be. Take a scotch bright pad or fine steel wool and clean it up. You don't want to use anything abrasive such as sandpaper as this will damage it.

Shortly after pening my original post< I went back downstairs and turned the heater on and it worked well for the next day. But it's starting to do the same thing again off and on. Initially, i thought that it was the thermostat settings that were too tight. So last season I changed it out and it had appeared that the problem went away. I set it to a 2 degree swing. My previous thermostat did no allow me to get that spread.

I can try cleaning the sensor. But why would it do it sometime and sometimes not. It acts like its at its high limit or something.

If not the sensor then what else could it be?
