Hi, our kitchen cabinets (installed before we moved in) look like they have a white veneer applied to a light wood cabinet. The veneer is starting to peel away from the edges of some of the cabinets. Is it possible to peel off that veneer and stain the wood underneath? While the white is beautiful, it is hard to keep clean and I would rather have light wood cabinets. Also, I don't really know what to do about the painted areas of the built ins around the stove and window area as they are also white.
Help? Thanks!

You might wreck what's there by trying to peel off the veneer. That said, peeling veneer doesn't look good, so I think this would be worth the risk. Worst case scenario, you might have to get them refaced.

Usually a veneer is applied over a cheaper wood. I doubt removing the veneer would produce a satisfactory surface. You may be able to reattach the loose veneer but then you still have cabinets you aren't crazy about.
