Hello, I am desperately trying to connect my projector to my laptop. My projector does not have the VGA output; all it has is the red, white, and yellow jacks. I have an adapter that has the VGA to connect to the laptop and the red, white, and yellow(all female), to connect to projector. However, I have a male-male 12ft. cable(connecting from laptop VGA-RCA adapter to the female jacks on the projector). The laptop screen will not appear on the projector. I have tried the display settings in the display properties section on my laptop. Is there any thing else to consider/relate to this problem in which is affecting it?
Any suggestions/comments welcome. Thank you in advance!

Most laptops have a function (fn) key you press. On mine, I press the blue "Fn" key and F8. It's labeled CRT/LCD.
What model laptop do you have?

All you should need for video is the yellow-to-yellow connection. The other two are for sound.
Boot the laptop with the VGA connected and it should automatically activate the VGA. If not, HotinOKC's advice was correct: Holding down the blue Function(Fn) key while you press F8 or F5 will cycle the computer's outputs to local screen, local screen and VGA, or VGA only.
You'll probably need to change the computer's resolution to 640x480 with a 60Hz refresh rate. If the projector still doesn't work, plug the computer into the yellow AV input of a TV and see if that works. If it does, plug the computer into the input of a VCR and use the VCR's output to feed the projector.
Is there a selector switch somewhere on the projector or remote that changes the input?

I tried the (FN) key w/ the F5 & F8.
It still did not work. I even tried the television set-up.
Any other ideas? My laptop is an HP Pavilion.
Thanks!!

On my Pavilion it is in fact Fn+F5, and on the F5 key there is a little pictorial of a monitor.
If it were me I'd eliminate all possible variables to start out with. Do you have a VGA monitor? Start by plugging that into the monitor instead of the adapter and projecter and make sure you can at least get that to come on. That way you can be sure that the laptop is at least sending out a signal on that output. The proceed with the projector.
