Hey, I'm ready to tile the backsplash in my kitchen. I have tiled b4, but my wife chose 4x4 travertine tiles w/ many "wormholes for this job. I've been reading some posts and want to be clear on what i need to do, i'm not sure of the "sealing" step.
1) Do i grout over the entire tile filling the "holes w/ grout?
2) Is a sealant required?
3) Is there a product that will seal and grout at the same time?
4) If not do i seal first and then grout?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Birch to answer your first question yes you do grout over the holes and fill them in completely. You must seal it up first (before grouting) use a good quality sealer (available at your local HI store) I usually use 2 coats of basic grout sealer. I do not know of any sealer/grout that does it all at once.:D After grouting you can apply another coat of sealer/finish for the look you want (ie: matte or gloss) I personally use Customs grout sealer for the first 2 coats and use either matte or gloss sealer/finish for the last one depending on what the customer wants.
