Florida Pest Control wants $300 to pre-treat my exposed wood and attic wood w/ a boric acid product for dry wood termites, but yet no damage protection policy. I still have a separate subterranean and Formosan termite plan, however. Should I worry about dry wood termites?

Hi Rose,
Depending on where in Florida you are located, you do need to be concerned about them. How old your house is, and whether it's ever been treated would determine if it needs to be done. This should help you to decide. If you need more help after reading this, don't hesitate to ask.

Newt,
Thanks for the reply. I live in NW FL and the house has been treated for subterranean termites and I have an annual contract inspection. The house is 26 y/o and is brick veneer frame construction on a concrete slab.

"Preventative treatments are generally made only when there has been a prior treatment for an infestation."

12,
I read your quote in the articles. It sounds like the way subterranean termites are handled. You prophylax following treatment, since the home is at greater risk for a reinfestation.

That's my take on the situation with dry wood termites. Too, if you noticed, it read that if spraying that injections should be done as well. But, this is done for control not prevention. Just keep vigil for signs and symptoms of dry wood termites.
