Hi,

Is there a special drill bit used to drill through ceramic tile or do you use a standard masonary bit?

Thanks.

Yes, there is a special-purpose bit for drilling ceramic tile. It has a slender shank and the drilling point is shaped like a triangle. These really work well. Good luck with your project.

I have added this address which has a photo:

A standard masonry bit also does a good job on ceramic tile.

As mentioned, either bit will work - I always use a finish nail to break the glaze so the bit won't skid.

You can pick up a tile drill bit at any box store. As george pointed out, use a nail or nail set to first break the glaze so it doesn't wander. One bit of caution: be sure you have ceramic tile and NOT porcelain. Porcelain is MUCH harder than ceramic and will require a specialty drill bit. Good luck!
