dvd loads, plays intro but freezes up completely. other times plays a while with an occasional skip. other times freezes up right away or can't read disc at all.
when it plays, audio & video is perfect.
is it a dirty laser, alignment/tracking issue or what?
any suggestions?
thanks.

Is this all disks or just one?
You can try a cleaning kit and see if that helps, but if not, you need a new DVD player.

[Based on the other thread from 10/27 I'm assuming this is the Apex and it's happening for all discs.]
I would try blowing it out with canned air first. Then if you can reach the lense swap it off with rubbing alcohol. Those cleaning discs can wreak havoc on a DVD drive, so I'm sure the same could happen with DVD players.
In the other thread you said it may have been bounced around? My Apex took a jolt one night when a friend had a few too many cocktails. It got progressively worse and it turned out the tray had become just a bit loose and the thing needed to be replaced. That $40 Wal-Mart Apex wasn't worth even taking the thing apart to see if it could be fixed.
