A spin off of another question I have...
I am installing a tile backsplash in our kitchen. We have the border/accent tile but I have not decided on the field tile yet and need help with a color selection.
A friend gave us boxes of beautiful hand painted 6x6 cream and blue Mexican/Mediterranean style decorative tile (for the border) that just happens to perfectly compliment the Silestone Sahara blue counters (photo here: http://www.silestoneusa.com/images/colors/large/1405.gif). The island counter is a rock maple with a natural finish. The floor is Walnut engineered hardwood (photo here: http://www.thomasvilleflooring.com/Walnut-Hardwood-Flooring.aspx) and is such a dark brown it's almost black. The cabinets are Hickory with a Linen finish (no photo available) with a Scandinavian style door. The appliances are white with exception of the coffeemaker (stainless and black) and the vent hood (stainless). Slim undercabinet lights with a steel finish and three industrial-style steel pie pan lights over the island provide lighting.
The kitchen is intended to have an eclectic, clean, but homey look with a solid hint of Mediterranean/Central American style warmth. There will be almost no "accessories" out on the counters or on the cabinets other than a Greek olive tin (used as a cooking utensil holder), African fruit basket, and maybe a couple mortar and pestals. The kitchen is part of the great room which has the same eclectic style and has a terra cotta red wood stove surround as it's focal point.
So the question is - what color should I go with for the backsplash field tiles? My ideas are a reddish brown, neutral cream, or deep blue... or ???. The color will be most pronounced behind the stove where the backsplash goes up for a 2-3 feet, otherwise the backsplash is only about 18" high. I plan to go with a glazed tile that is easy to clean.
Thanks in advance for the ideas fellow wise DIYers!
