what should i do with these cabinets? They are old and theres a kitchen on the 2nd floor we are currenly using that was built in the 80's that has newer cabinets. I think we want to get rid of the 2nd kitchen since Its a single family house(I know 2 kitchens, wierd). We want to have the kitchen on the first floor so i baught a dishwasher and am hesitant to install it. Are these cabinets worth anything or worth keeping or refinishing? they look well built. I overall need help with the whole scheme of the house it is a ranch built in the early 60's then raised in the mid 80's. It was built as a one family, but they added the 2nd floor as an inlaw floor, so the setup is basically 2 identical floors with full baths and kitchens and rooms on each floor.

Welcome to the forums!

I doubt you could sell the cabinets but that doesn't mean they have no value. The could be a great adition to someone's shop. If you don't have use for them yourself, maybe you can find someone that would want them - they might even be willing to remove them for you ;)

Some people sell entire kitchens all at once, or you could give it away too. We just gave away the cruddiest cabinets in the world (particle board screwed to 2x2s and then attached to the wall) and yes people wanted them! Selling older cabinets is hard since people want nice ones in the kitchen remodels and are not necessarily willing to pay for them for a shop or garage. You may also be able to donate them to Habitat for Humanity or a similar charity and write them off instead.

the thing is theres a 2nd kitchen above the 1st floor one. the 2 floors are layed out almost identical. 3 rooms 1 bat and one kitchen on each floor. has anyone else had this problem before? what to do with the 2nd floor kitchen...? Its a single family house and Obviosly we dont need the 2nd floor kitchen. Would most people keep the kitchen or turn it into a small bedroom or double the bathrooms size and add a jacuzzi tub then extend the bedroom off the kitchen and make it bigger...? Any suggestions are very very welcome, I have no clue which way to go with this one.

It all depends on what your needs or wants are. Do you have use for another bed rm? Do you need the space for something else? Do you expect to live in this house a long time? If you expect to move soon would the extra kitchen be a plus or a minus? Would it lend it self to splitting the home into 2 residences ?

:D too many questions :D ;)

Its kind of a single family neighborhood, so we will want to keep it a single family. As far as needing the space, i would say no, and theres always a 4th bedroom downstairs that we use as an office. We would like the option of selling in 7-10 years, so I dont think stuffing in another bedroom upstairs is exactly gonna sell the house any faster being that theres 4 bedrooms already. And i dont think that a 2nd kitchen is really an item that makes the house more sellable, the 2nd floor and kitchen was added in the 80's for inlaws, no kids have ever lived here, just 1 old couple from 1963 - 1985 then 2 old couples from 85 - 07.

Craft room. Media room. Game room. Art studio. Music practice space. Dressing room. Workshop. Library. Wet bar. Lounge. Exercise room. Pet room. Build a rock climbing cave. Let your imagination run wild!

We are going to completely redo the first floor kitchen and remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room. maybe put a tall bar stool island in there where the wall was. on the 2nd floor we are gonna extend the bathroom out into the kitchen and put a 2 person jacuzzi in, the kitchen we are gonna keep whats left of it (8 x 12 will be left) and style it as a kitchenette/breakfast nook with a small tall table , and upon selling the house in 7-10 years we will have to decide wheather the kitchenette should stay or make it into a nursery or something, whatever is more marketable at the time. with the 3 bedrooms upstairs and the heating costs, i think the breakfast kitchen will be warm on those cold mornings just from the bedrooms' heat, that way you dont need to go downstairs to a cold kitchen and heat it up to have breakfast just to shut it off and go to work, seems wastefull. I will update this thread with some pics when things get underway.
