I live in a house made many years ago with vintage fixtures. When my land lord came to repair he took out the old stems to find out at a hardware store that they just don't make that type anymore. I was told that I would need to replace the pipes in the wall behind the tub and insall new pipes by cutting out a section from top to bottom and then I could get new fixtures for new stems. Is this true? If so where can I get a layout of this in the way of a diagram which would show what kind of pipes to use.

Welcome to the DoItYourself.com forums Harry :)

This doesn't answer your question, but why are you doing something your landlord should be doing? What did your landlord say about this?
