The power light comes on? But nothing at all on the display? No channel or input indication? Any sound? You've tried, I assume, the channel up button several times?

I know these might sound like dumb questions. Have you tried the front controls on the tv? Channel up and down with it on?

I'm wondering if tthe remote is set to a different piece of equipment (most remotes can control more than one thing, and have a button or switch to change that). But then it shouldn't turn the tv on & off. I was hoping maybe he swtiched it to a video input, then to a different piece of equipment. It would be a stretch for him to get into menu and turn the brighteness or contrast way up or down, but even then you should still see the channel indications and other on screen display stuff.

Thanks again for trying.I did try this morning to manualy push the channel buttons, but no luck the tv was not even 2 yrs old.before I wrote you back this time I took the remote and tried pushing like the video different buttons you can here like a somewhat sound when you turn it on but of course its not audio.and with remote you can turn it off and on.I left it turned on all night when it first happened thought maybe they hit the sleep button on it. but it still did not come back on.that was a year ago.Boy I wished this baby going.I left it on now hopeing for miracle. If you can think of anything else I would apperciate it.

Are you comfortable with taking the back off the tv? If you are there are several LED's on the board that you can see lit. There are 5 green LED's and one RED one. All of them should be on if the TV is working properly.
There are PICO fuses that blow when a circuit is not working and the assosiated LED will not lite. If a LED is missing it means there is a problem in the circuit and should be fixed prior to replacing the PICO fuse.
A common problem is with CONVERGENCE IC's that go bad. Your set has a MAGIC FOCUS FEATURE that when pressed on the front panel of the TV could be quite entertaining for a youngster. Pressed repeatly
might damage the circuit. The inside LED, lit or not, would point you in this direction.
If you decide to investigate by taking the back off be warned that there are voltages that may cause injury. I would suggest calling a serviceman to determine why your set will not power up and display a picture.

Thanks for getting back with me.I took the back cover off and I saw 4 green lights and one red light. and all those were lit only one green was not I saw a little fuse and looked at it it did not seem to melted in the middle at least that is the way you could tell.or can you tell that way.I took it out and it said 125 volt and some other writing on it look like e6a.can you tell me by the lights that were on if it could be a fuse.and if so where do I find it at.and if I had to take it to the shop by what I described to you around about what do you think it would cost.I really do apperciate your input.

Now you know that it is something in the TV that is bad and you can now act on that information.
In 99% of the cases when a fuse is blown it is because it did its job and protected a circuit that failed. One has to correct the failure before putting the fuse back in. I would not suggest that you at this point try to repair the TV yourself. Shop around for a repair solution.
The more info you can give to a repair shop the better they can ballpark an estimate for you. If they give you a $500 repair estimate do you think this would be reasonable given what you paid for the TV? Your Hitachi is repairable and given it's age and being HD ready I would feel comfortable in investing in the repair.

Personally, I always replace a fuse once. It may have been an electrical surge that popped it. And if it happened when your grandson was pressing buttons like mad, who knows. Right sequences of events? If you can feel safe putting in a new fuse, give it a shot. Make sure it's the same amp or milliamps, so you don't damage something else if there is a problem.
