Looking for a quality 37 inch LCD TV at a decent price, what do the experts suggest.

As far as brands go, how does VIZIO compare.
What qualities should I look for in a good LCD TV

It's all about how much you want to spend. If you want a really nice LCD, expect to pay alot. If you go cheap, you will get a cheap TV.

Vizio is ok. Look at some elctronic stores reviews of their products to gauge quality and features.

It's too difficult to tell you what to look for because I may have different views of features then someone else.

Just stay away from the cheap LCD's. For a decent 37" LCD, expect to pay $1000+.

Make sure you get an extended service plan!

I think to many people look at the picture, and decide solely on that. They say, this xyz no name brand has as good a picture as the abc major brand, so why pay 30 to 50 % more?

Unfortunately they don't consider that maybe the abc brand has a better power supply, or better electronics that will last alot longer. And at $800 to $4000 that makes a big difference.

how do you judge power supply

That's the point. So when spending that kind of money, I would tend to go with a name brand I can trust.

I read an article about 3 or 4 years ago, in a trade magazine, about how any integrator, or anybody really, with good financing, could put out there own line of plasma or lcd tv's. Because there are so many manufacturers overseas making these things, with a little import knowledge or help, you could by a container load with your brand slapped on it, and off you go. Now it was partially a parody, since you have to move them fast enough before they're outdated, etc, but it could be done, without a ton of money. Point is, there's a lot of chep stuff with no major backing. Who's gonna stand behind it? Good luck with the third tier asian manufacturer with no US office or support.

I was told at tweeters, that there is no 37" LCD. They go to 32" then you get into plasma and $$$$$ Comsumers does their best to inform me of my stupidity, so i bought the 32" LCD they recommended, Panasonic. Have had it about 3 wks, and still not sure my old 27" standard tube model was not better.

The person who told you that was a bit out of date. The first search I tried turned up this (http://www.nextag.com/37-lcd-tv/search-html). LCD TV sizes are at 50 inches and climbing.

While it's true that plasmas have the price advantage when you get to very large screens, LCDs are catching up and the current price break point seems to be around 37 inches -- exactly what you wanted in the first place.
