I am remodeling a basement bathroom and I am interested in staining the concrete floor instead of putting down a different type of flooring. I have torn out all of the old flooring. There was a black adhesive under the carpet as the home was built in the 40's. I have scraped it and need to know my next step.

Staining concrete can be a hit/miss issue unless done right. One step involves and acid wash which may not be a good idea for the casual DIY. The fumes can be deadly. If you can't get up all the old adhesive, it won't look good anyhow, might be better to consider a different finish option.
