My whirlpool model # GU1200XTKQ0 one night started to make loud grinding noises, followed by a burnt electircal smell. we disconnected it, and I thought we needed a new motor. I just pulled the old one and installed a new one. The old shaft could barely be turned. when I installed the new motor it sits and "hums" without running. I'm afraid I've missed the actual cause and will burnout the NEW one too!!
Now the strange thing is that it fills, and pumps out. The motor on this model, I think, does both agitating and pumping, not two separate ones. so if it pumps, then it must turn?? I noticed that there was a spring loaded thing (attached to the washer, not motor) that engaged the impellor on the motor. It would not turn, is it supposed to turn?? or just pusk back against the impeller? Should I take the agitating mechanism apart to see if its bound up? won't do anything till I hear from someone. Thanks.
