Hi

I have my basement steps made out of presswood. Is there a way we can stain them? I do not want to change them to hardwood and carpet is not something we perfer.

You could cover them with oak veneer and put 1/2 round on the front of the steps and then stain.
Not sure if just staining them will look very good being pressed board.

I agree staining them won't improve the looks much. If you do go that route a tinted poly would probably look better than a penetrating stain. Paint might be a better idea.
