I was wondering whats the best method for attaching the support post into the ground. My deck will be 40" off the ground so I was going to use 4x6's. My county code only calls for the support post to be 12" below surface. My plan was to use 12" sonotube 16" high. ( 12 below the surface and 4 above ) then a metal bracket in the concrete to hold the 4x6 in place. I know everyone says not to place the post right into the cement but it seems to me you would get much better horizontal support ( sway ) if it was in the cement vs a small metal bracket holding it into place.
What are my best options? I'm open for suggestions.

Embed a Simpson column base or post base into the footing and attach the 4X6 into the base.
Simposon has several choices -- PB46, PBS46.CB46, CBQ46, CBSQ46, and others that will work for you.
Go to a lumberyard and look at the catalog. See which ones the dealer stocks, then choose.
