How much should baseboard trim be raised from the floor when installing a pad & carpet that is about 1" combined.
A carpet guy told me I should only raise the base board 1/4".
I was thinking more like 3/4". Any advice.
Thanks

Yeah. The carpet guy was right Presumably you will apply a tack strip around the parimeter of the room away from the wall. the padding will be installed within the parimeter of the tack strip. Leave a space of about 1/2" between the strips and the wall. The carpet will go over and past the tack strip and be tucked under the baseboard.

I always tell my customers to leave a 3/8 gap under the base board. 1/4 makes it too hard to stuff the carpet and I've seen it gouge the bottom of the base. Half is too high. If your floor is not perfectly flat or the base was not installed to follow the contour of the floor precisely, there is too much chance you'll have gaps in places along the walls between the base and carpet when the job is done. With a 3/8 gap, all these potential issues are avoided.
