I want to build a bar that will sit between two walls - so I only need a bar top. I'm thinking it can fit into some sort of bracket on each side to keep it sturdy. any ideas of material to use and how to design. It will need to be five feet long to fit. See diagram:)

Welcome to the forums! A 5' span with a countertop only won't give adequate support by itself. What do you plan to use as a countertop? Laminate, stone, etc?

My initial thoughts would be to have an iron support frame made of angle iron welded up that could be attached to the studs on each side. Whatever countertop you like could then be set on top.
The iron frame underneath the counter could be encased by trim on the bottom and sides if desired, or just hidden from view by an apron.
