Question. I'm planning on attaching my twin beam semi free standing deck to my home. All aspects were considered and I doubled the required dementional lumber qty and upped the sizes. The issue is that my ledger board will run parallel to the 14" floor truss. Yup, you got it, NO rim joist, band joist, end baord, whatever you want to call it. The ledger board needs to be fastened to the 2x4 webbing of the truss. This not looking good as I do not want to lag into the 2x4's of the truss. We're not talking the end of the truss but the webbing that makes up the structure of the truss.

A full free standing would be the final option if there are NO alternatives. I can't be the only person to run into this issue. The BI missed this detail and they have checked off on the design and approved my BP. My 12X48" belled footings are in so a design change would be a mess.

All you experts got any known solutions or ideas?

Thanks and happy hammering!

I'd go back to the Building Inspector.

Illdoitmyself,

You're assuming that the building inspector missed it. I don't know that he did. The code I build to (UBC, for the rest of this year) states that the lag bolts holding the ledger have to penetrate 1" or more into #2 or better dimensional lumber of the framing of the house. That can be done lagging into a 2X4 member of a truss.

I'ld go talk to the plan checker if you have concerns.

I agree with your concerns about lagging into the truss, and I wouldn't do it if I were building the deck. It would have been designed and quoted as a freestanding deck fron the beginning.
