The township code dept. asked to use ACQ friendly flashing for the ledger board of my new deck.

They said I cannot use aluminun or vinyle. I have to use copper. I do not understand why vinyle cannot be used.

It will be more difficult to bend the metal compare buying a read-made flashing.

They might be referring to PVC (vinyl) coated aluminum, which is only coated on one side- the side that would contact the ACQ is still aluminum.

I would think that a true vinyl flashing, such as that made from Pro-Trim vinyl coil, would work fine. Of course if you have an inspector to please, there's no use arguing with them since what they say goes.

I've been using tar paper or tyvek to separate my flashings from direct contact with ACQ and haven't had any problem with that. Perhaps you could ask if that would be acceptable.
