Hi,
I have a 1940 colonial in Connecticut. Hope I explain this correctly. Above one of the bedrooms the roof slopes sharply and, looking in from the attic, there is a 4 inch space between the roof and the bedroom ceiling that is approximately 30" deep. There is no insulation in that space. It cannot be reached easily. How would I insulate that? I thought about expanding foam or maybe about putting in celulose. If I used expanding foam the cavity would be filled. Is that a problem? Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Blow in cellulose. You wont fill the cavity anyway (R3 X 30" depth = R90 overall = total overkill).

By the way, I can understand "horribly incovenient" but not "not easily reached"? Are you sure? I'm pretty fat and I can still easily work in 2 foot spaces. I'm not questioning your judgement just wondering if you cant stretch a bit more to get the batts rolled in there.
