Hi all-
We live in a townhouse complex, in the upper unit, last one on the end. For the last couple of months, the upstairs toilet has been making weird gurgling noises periodically, like it is half-flushing. It sounds like this is happening whenever one of our neighbours flushes their toilets. Is this a valve somewhere in the line that needs replacing? (we're on strata).

thanks

Since it is the last one, you probably have a vent occlusion. As the others are flushed, they are looking for air to equalize the water going down the drain, and it can't get any, so it is sucking air from your toilet. Since cleaning the vent will require a road trip to the roof, make sure you can do it safely, or call a pro to check it out. If you decide to do it yourself, take a garden hose (water off) up and chug it down the vent until you clear the occlusion. Be careful, as it isn't the fall, but the sudden stop that makes for a bad hair day.
