I have a nine year old refrigerator that cools fine but when the compressor stops it bangs twice. any ideas as to what's wrong? And will the frig stop cooling?

Thanks guys for any help you can give me!!!

If you don't get your answer here, try asking the pros in the a/c forum here, as this is most likely a problem that could also occur in any refrigeration device that uses a compressor and refrigerant and the other associated parts.

Check the compressor's resiliant mounts. I suspect one or more is hard, broken, or missing.

Mine did that for 2 years. I didn't figure an old fridge was even worth the cost of the repair call.

I never did figure out what was wrong with it.

I had the back off and could see that the compressor rocked when it turned off, but nothing appeared to be wrong.

It eventually got bad enough that it sounded like someone playing the tambourine in the kitchen and I decided it was time to replace it. Still was working, but I didn't want to have an unplanned fridge replacement.
