It's used to mount a waterpik-type shower head. The shower head hangs on a hook on the wall.

Thanks for the help. I tried a dozen searches for "shower head mount", "remote shower mount", etc. and found nothing. From your link, I found that the product is call a "shower arm mount" and there a dozens of varieties.
