I have just removed a wall between my kitchen and dining room. The dining and living rooms have a knockdown texture and are painted white. The kitchen has an orange peel texture and is painted green. I intend to paint the kitchen ceiling white to match the dining and living rooms.

Do I need to re-texture the entire kitchen ceiling, or can I transition the texture from orange peel to knockdown without it being too obvious with white paint? Thanks for the help!

The color is off in the pictures, but hopefully they give you an idea of what I am working on.

I've painted more than one ceiling that had a texture change [or texture/no texture] from one room to another - never thought a whole lot about it :)

So you don't think that it will be very noticeable? That is good to hear!

Some other people have told me that I will have to re-texture the entire living room, dining room, and kitchen for it to look good.

In that case, I think that I will just try to do the texture transition and then paint it a flat white to match. Thanks!

I wasn't trying to say it wouldn't be noticable, just that it probably wouldn't be offensive looking. Just try to have a clean line where the two different textures meet. Although I suppose if it was blended right - that would work too.

Generally unless it is something hideous, most people won't notice - except for a painter, drywall man or diyer :D
