Hi - We are planning to build a waterfront home on the Texas Gulfcoast. We were going to do the outside of the home in Stucco. Our architect is recommending Hardiboard siding. He said the cost of "real" stucco (which is what we would want) is much higher than Hardiboard siding. I would like to get opinions of other architects. We wanted the stucco, because we thought it would be easier to maintain and more hurricaine resistant plus it has a nice tropical look. But, we also want to keep costs down if possible. What are the pros and cons of stucco and Hardiboard siding?

This is really your choice. You want the stucco for the looks, but do not want to pay the price. so now you will make the decision. Both are good.
