I think that I already posted this, but it logged me out, so I am going to post a summed up version of my post..
I live in a 2nd floor apartment, and the noise from the gas station, school bus, and truck drivers using the parking lot next door keeps me wide awake all night long. I can even hear people TALKING outside. The only time that it is quiet is when I have to get up in the morning!! The only window that is that bad is in my bedroom.
Since I live in a rented apartment, I cannot replace this window, or cause anything that could constitute as "damage" and so I am looking for an alternative. I have drapes, and although they muffle the noise, it is so loud that I can still hear it clearly. It is exactly the same if I have the window open as it is closed. The seal is fine, as that was recently fixed, and I performed the "match trick" on it. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE HELP ME!! I work at a law firm, so I have to be alert during the day, and I am starting to hate coffee!!!

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I'm not a window pro, but in the past I've seen old egg cartons used as a sound barrier. Though they are not very decorative  they do work.
Hang in there and maybe a seasoned pro can assist.
Have you asked your landlord to rectify the issue?

I'm also in a 2nd floor apartment, and my bedroom is right above the 1st floor living room (they watch TV loudly until all hours of the night.) I keep a fan turned on next to my bed. It makes just enough noise to drown out their TV, and the monotonous sound of the droning fan puts me to sleep.

Hi,Maybe it's more than windows could be the whole wall.
I am just guessing but maybe you could tack up some carpet on the wall to muffel the sound. The best cure would be to move.
Good Luck Woodbutcher
