Greetings everyone,
I need to drill some half inch diameter holes into a brick wall (each in 2.5" depth), to install a wall mount for the tv... :wall:

Unfortunately, the general purpose hammer drill that I have on hand is a bit weak (?), and the manual recommends up to 1/4" bits for concrete. (DeWalt DC988 18v. XRP)

I know the better option is to rent a proper tool at home depot, but that just seems like a lot of hassle for six holes in the wall. I'm wondering if it would be possible for me to ignore the recommended capacity and go ahead with the drill I have...?

If I work up each hole from 1/4" to 3/8" to 1/2", shouldn't the drill be able to handle that? I don't think the wall is as hard as concrete (probably... haha). I have the proper carbide masonry bits in those three sizes.

Thank you

You should have no problem at all doing it the way you said.
