This morning my 2 year old daugther noticed pretty buggies swarming outside which I later found to be subterrianian termites. I don't not have any apparent signs of infestation to the home. We had an inspecition almost 2 years ago. Already, my argentine ants were eating the termites. I'm in Norcal Area SF Bay Area. We have lots of argentine ants. Lots. I've learned to control them excessively and now I'm on to termites - I suppose.

My question is should I be concerned about the outside swarms? Is there need for action here? I gotta figure the a pro termite guy will come to my house scare my wife and sign me to a bogus contract.

I know that termites are a natural part of the ecosystem. They're currently hovering near the home by some planter boxes that no longer have plants in them only decorative bark. We had our first rain yesterday and warm temps today which I assume is what put the terms in the mood for love.

What to do?

I've searched and searched and what I come up with is to be sure they are termites and not ants. You can compare them here though you probably have already done this.

I found this site at UC Davis that is regional to your situation that you should look at. I think it will be helpful.
